OPTIK Experience

We do far more than sell eyewear. Yes, you’ll find luxury frames, expertly fit glasses, and contact lenses—but what truly sets us apart is our commitment to comprehensive, preventative eye care.

Our approach goes beyond the required standard of care. Every exam is more detailed, more intentional, and every recommendation best suited for your long-term vision. Once you rely on glasses or contacts, monitoring your eye health becomes even more important. That’s where our team steps in with the attention, clarity, and expertise you deserve to support your clearest, healthiest vision for years to come.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

A detailed eye exam that looks beyond vision to catch early signs of irritation, cataracts, and eye disease. Thoughtful, thorough, and never rushed.

During our comprehensive service examination, we take a close look at your eyelids, lashes, tear film and the cornea; this simple step helps to detect dryness, irritation, allergies, or early signs of certain conditions.

Cataract development is easily checked at this point. Don’t worry, it’s one of those natural changes that we can easily monitor, and give you a thoughtful assessment. When the time comes, we connect patients with the best cataract specialists in the area. We know them.

Glasses & Contact Lenses

Advanced eyewear and next-generation contact lenses, including blue-blocking options. Designed for sharper vision, comfort, and modern lifestyles.

The latest greatest? Blue Blocking contact lenses! OPTIK is known as one of the first offices to offer the contact lens manufacturer’s newest lens designs. What’s new? Single use (1 day contacts) for astigmatism and presbyopia with blue blocking. Blue blocking enhances contrast; simply put, you’ll see more sharply on gray days, or when the sun sets or at night!

Dry Eye Disease

Dry eye care that focuses on real causes, not quick fixes. Personalized guidance that fits how you actually live and work.

Finally, Answers that make sense. Dry Eye has quietly become a multi-billion-dollar industry, but here’s what we know: most people don’t need endless prescription drops and expensive treatments. They need personalized guidance, and early detection that actually fits their lifestyle. Following an anti-inflammatory diet, staying hydrated, taking breaks from your computer, practicing good eyelid hygiene, are just a few quick tips.

Presbyopia

Reading glasses aren’t your only option. We specialize in modern contact lens solutions that help you see near and far with ease.

The need for reading glasses. Today’s contact lenses can be tailored for you. The number one cause for people to stop wearing contact lenses is related to their needing reading glasses. This happens to everyone eventually, and we take pride in finding the right multi-focal contact lenses or combinations of lens options to limit that need. We don’t want to see you with reading glasses perched on your head like a tiara, or dangling from your shirt. We’ll work patiently with you!

Glaucoma

Glaucoma screening that goes beyond eye pressure. Advanced imaging helps detect changes early, often before symptoms begin.

“Normal Pressures” don’t tell the whole story. The old “puff machine” no longer exists at OPTIK Birmingham. We have a stress-free alternative. Easy peasy, now. Modern research shows that nearly 40% of glaucoma cases occur in people with “normal range” pressures — meaning traditional screening misses far too much, yet testing pressure remains within standard, where other tests remain secondary.

Our diagnostic approach goes deeper. Using advanced imaging we look beyond the surface to catch early changes long before symptoms appear. It’s thoughtful prevention, not fear-driven care — to keep you seeing clearly for decades. The data we collect is easily transferrable should you ever move.

Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy

High-resolution retinal imaging reveals changes you can’t feel or see yet. Early detection helps protect your vision long-term.

Our digital retinal scans allow for early detection of changes and provide essential data to monitor your eye health over time. The macula is the most sensitive part of your retina responsible for your sharp, central vision you use for reading, and recognizing faces. It often develops slowly and without pain which makes early detection essential. Diabetes can quietly affect the delicate blood vessels of the retina. Early stages cause no symptoms at all.

With Wide-Field Digital Imaging and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) we can view nearly the entire retina with a single image and a microscopic look at swelling or fluid beneath the surface. Together, they provide a crystal-clear roadmap for where lifestyle changes, monitoring, or retinal specialist care may be needed. It’s our goal to protect your long-term vision years before problems arise.

Pupil Dilated Eye Evaluation

Dilation remains the gold standard for a complete eye exam. When appropriate, advanced imaging offers an excellent alternative.

Patients frequently ask “do I really need that?” Yes, dilation is the standard of care for a complete exam, though we’re happy to arrange a follow-up visit if your schedule doesn’t allow for temporary vision changes. Our wide-field digital retinal imaging also offers an excellent alternative when appropriate.

Other Retinal Conditions

Quiet retinal changes can have serious consequences if missed. Modern imaging allows us to monitor, document, and act early.

From retinal holes to tears to epiretinal membranes and macular puckers, many retinal issues begin quietly. Some require only careful monitoring; others need prompt treatment to prevent vision loss. That is where modern diagnostics truly shine.

Wide field digital imaging lets us scan areas of the retina traditional exams can miss. OCT reveals fine structural details impossible to see otherwise. This layered approach allows us to document changes over time and recognize patterns that signal when referral to a retinal specialist is the safest path.

In-House Finishing Lab

Our on-site finishing lab allows us to custom cut lenses to fit the exact shape of your frame. By finishing lenses in-house, we’re able to maintain high-quality craftsmanship, ensure precise fit, and deliver faster turnaround on prescriptions—so your eyewear looks great and performs exactly as it should.
